C27 blisters

I am getting ready to buy a 1986 C27. The boat is in perfect condition except for some patches of blisters around the water line near the stern and a couple smaller patches on the hull. The blisters are about the size of the tip of a ball point pen. How serious and issue are blisters of this type. The boat is going to be used on lake St Clair, MI and will never see saltwater. I have heard what the broker says about them. I am interested in what other opinions are.Thank you.Ryan

Pretty small...

How many? I would say that is a minor concern - at that size, how did you even notice them? I would assume they are probably very shallow, but a surveyor will be able to give you a better idea, along with a more informed view of the overall condition of the boat.Have the boat yard (or you favorite shade tree mechanic) grind em out when you go for a haul out. Reglass, and you are on your way. For an 86, that's not bad. In comparision, I have a 79 C-27 that had not been hauled in 10 years (PO's decision, not mine). After a haul, we found only 4 half dollar size blisters, and a dozen or less dime size blisters. Total cost for repair was around 200 bucks.Hope that helps -Rob

How many??

It is hard to say how many. I only know about them because the broker told me there were blisters on the boat. After I couldn't find them I asked him to point them out to me. There are several patches of them. They are all that size. I would guess a few hundred total. Ryan

Probably cosmetic

But if you're concerned, have a surveyor check it out. Actually, that new of a boat probably isn't too cheap so you should get a survey anyway. He'll let you know how big a problem they are. I'm guessing the boat's been out of the water for awhile

If the broker stands behind his boat, he'll agree to fix them prior to the sale. Afterall, if they are minor, then there should be no problem in fixing them.I think LaDonna is right, if the boat is out of the water, the blisters may swell a bit once the fill with water.If they are just at the water line, and are that small, then it should be an easy repair, and I would think the broker would suck it up.That said, I can't tell you how important a survey is! My survey cost me around 300 bucks - best damned money I ever spent on the boat. The best benenfit that I received was just the peice of mind knowing the boat was in good shape.Best of Luck, and enjoy yourself. blisters continued

The first time I saw the blisters it was only a couple of days after the boat had been removed from the water last fall. The most recent time a couple of weeks ago they still looked the same. The boat is availble for a fair discount because of them. Thanks for the help and advice.Ryan
