I am thinking about purchasing a new boat. I am looking for something with more performance than my previous boat. At the time i am trying to decide between the Hunter 33 and the C

I think C&C is pretty well known for performance, but I've never sailed one. I do have a new Hunter 33, having moved up from a 290. I must say that I am impressed with its performance, even with the furling main. And it has lots of creature comforts to make cruising a pleasure.

Two total different kinds of boats. The Hunter is no match boat for boat around the bouys. That's not to say that sailing in a PHRF FLEET the Hunter cant be competitive. The Hunter will be more comfortable at anchor and the dock. The C&C will sail faster and closer to the wind. If money wasn't an issue I'd buy the C&C.

Serious Racer?

Several good and accurate points were made in the comparison. Obviously the C&C is a serious racer but she may be difficult to sail to her rating. Conversely, Presumably you could maximize the Hunter and be somewhat competitive to your rating. You would have to get appropriate sails, a folding or feathering prop, a headfoil system (not a roller furler} a racing bottom finish, get rid of all superflous weight, maybe some additional winches and sheet stoppers, etc. At some point you can put her back in cruising mode and enjoy you time on the water both ways. Look at the typical PHRF ratings as somewhat of a yardstick, but these two are not similar boats. Maybe you should also check out an X33.

I, personally, own a Hunter 29.5, and love the way it sails, however, my fiance's brother purchased a 2003 99 at the beginning of the season, and I must say...it screams! I am very impressed. There is an almost infinite list of trim adjustments. The sail inventory is top notch for the price. The rigging is top notch. This year on Lake Erie, though a bit cool, the sailing has been really fantastic. Average winds have been in the area of 18 to 22 knots, and the C
