C& D Canal ... current and tide

I paln on circumnavigating the Delmarva peninsula bext summer and am going clockwise. For some dumb reason I thought the current in the C& D always ran from west to east and that tides didn't effect it that much. How wrong am I?What about going down the Delaware River? I figured the rivers current would help me going south and that the tides wouldn't effect me much till I got down into the Delaware Bay. Am I really wrong or jus t a little?Hayden
