C&C 30MK1 Bimini/Dodger Question

I picked up a '73 C&C 30 MK1 project boat a couple of years ago. On this particular boat, the boom sits about 2' above the cabin top, which makes it about shoulder height when standing in the cockpit. There are twist fasteners around the back of the cabin top, so I'm pretty sure it had some kind of short dodger in the past. However, with the low boom, the backstay coming down, and the mainsheet attaching right in front of the pedestal, I don't know how a bimini would be fitted. Just wondered if anybody else has this configuration and how your bimini was designed. I need some shade while out sailing!

With the boom that low, I would go for a rail mounted bimini, stops just aft of the boom, more of a helmsman bimini really, but nice headroom:

We have the solution Dave describes with the bimini behind the end of the boom. It works fine with he sun overhead or heading out of the sun. A big advantage is that the whole main and windex are easily visible from the helm.
