Do you have a manual for your boat? If not, get one from the C30 Yahoo group skippers or the association website. Catalina was pretty good showing the general routing of AC power in their manuals.

However, that's a starting point, no knowing what a PO did, so you should trace them anyway. Easy to do behind the panel.

Usually 3 ac breakers/circuits on mid 90's panel, 10 amps each labeled water heater, battery charger/inverter, outlets. All outlets are on the one 10 amp circuit. Odd your boat did not come from the factory with a GFI. It was usually port side in the galley, any chance a PO installed a microwave or TV in front of it?

Agree, the port side galley is where I figured a CFI outlet would be, but it's just a regular outlet. I can't explain why there's not a GFI on the boat; figured in 1995 maybe it wasn't required.

I'll take a look at the breaker panel, and hopefully it will be a simple matter to verify all outlets are on that 10A outlet cb...duh!

I would bet it failed and a previous owner just put in a regular outlet.

By the way, don't just get a GFCI outlet from the box store. And don't by a "marine grade" outlet from West Marine as they are often repackaged versions of the same crap from the box store.

You need a good quality, water resistant outlet. You want a Class A, WR UL 943 GFCI outlet. I have some links I did in this post from my blog that will help you.

I have a 1995 Catalina MK III and I have one GFI receptacle mounted to the left of the Electrical panel. This receptacle feeds (protects) the 3 other non-GFI receptacles. I checked the non GFI receptacles with my GFI circuit tester and each receptacle trips the main GFI receptacle.

Mystery solved. My C30 MkIII does indeed have a GFCI outlet, in the same location as Captn Dean's.

Problem was, unlike Capn's, mine has a brown outlet and faceplate, which blends in nicely with the woodwork. Plus, there was a lot of 'stuff' stored on the shelf, blocking the outlet from view. Surveyor missed it...I did, too.
