C-30 list to port

Since buying my 87'TR in May I've noticed a 2-4 degree list to port. I figure because the galley, Lazarette and head are on that side. Has anyone done anything about this or do I not have enough stuff stowed to starboard? I've filled the H2O tank(s)without a noticeable difference. Thanks!

You got it

Quite honestly, I can't figure out why designers do this. Cascades are the same way. Everything is on one side of the boat - totally unbalanced! Best suggestion is to stow as much heavy stuff to starboard (canned food, anchors, etc.). If you have enough stuff, it'll help. LaDonna

Heavier is Faster (NOT!)

The few suggestions before this response are to "put more stuff on board" to balance the boat out - whew! not on my boat! More Stuff = More Weight = More Displacement = Slower. My '85 Catalina with the traditional layout lists slightly to port - I've always attributed this to my two batteries on the port side, and empty water tank on Stbd. What I have noticed, and can't exactly figure out, is that the boat is slightly faster on port tack. Do you have the same situation?

Batteries to port?!

Tim, My batteries are to starboard aft of the H2O tank. I'll agree with the more weight the slower you go theory. I don't know where I would put the "stuff" on the starboard anyway. I think I will try some lead. About 200-230 lbs seems level it out nicely (nice winter project:() Depending on the conditions port tack should be faster in the light stuff, if its fast in conditions I would say you have a mast tune situation... Thanks

Larger Battery Bank?

I added 4 golf cart batteries just above the originals. This is now my house bank. At 70 lbs. apiece this adds up to 280 lbs. Level boat, more electronic goodies. Life is good! I also heard more weight=longer waterline=more hull speed! Ha!

more batteries

I also cured my port list buy adding 4 golf cart batteries under the starboard settee, aft of the water tank. Might go slower, but have cold beer! George
