For those of you with the U shaped dinette configuration, here is an idea that gave our 1985 C 30 a great deal more room. Since the original table is bulky and hard to get around to sit down, we cut the table twice to make three equal sections. The middle section is where the table connects to the post. The other two sections were attached with hinges beneath the table so the "leaves" could be lowered when not in use. When raised, the hinges snap into place and provide support. The folded table is also easier to store under the cockpit when folded. Hope this helps out!

I am very interested and thought of doing this myself, but was worried that it would not work. What happens when you remove the post and lower the tabletop for use as the bed? Does it hold up with the hinges? What kind of hinges "snap into place?" I would appreciate any additional help as I really intend to try this. Thanks

Hinges that are strong

John...Use heavy locking hinges that fold up against the bottom of the table when leaves are down. When you open the table the hinges snap into place and provide very good support. The stronger the hinges, the more the table will remain tight and level when open over the years. Cut it so the leaves drop towards the bow and stern of the boat (leaves running starboard to port). This gives good room to walk around when the leaves are down. To make into a bunk you simply turn the table 90 degrees (the original piece of wood is square) and set it on the bunk supports so all three sections of the table are supported (leaves running bow to stern). We have had ours up and down too many times to count and never had any problems.

Thank you for getting back to me. I will visit Home Depot first and try to find hinges that would lock to keep the table up in the "dining" position. Thanks again, John
