Back to this split backstay issue!!!. Does anyone know if the transom area on starboard is reinforced as the port side is to hold the chain plate for the split backstay. I AM GOING to convert but I perfer to do it safely!!. Was the split backstay an OPTION on the Catalina 28 between 1991 and 1994??? and if so what was the option number ??? Any help or referal would be great. Dave Slepoy

Split Stay

Dave, I own a 27 Catalina with an adjustable split backstay. Most sailors I've talked with admit to not hardly ever using the adjustment. I'm going to convert mine so the adjustment hardware will no longer be in the way when I'm at the helm. Rather than going to a single stay, I'm going to extend the lower wire stays so that they meet much further up on the backstay. This will give me the headroom in the rear of the cockpit that I want without having to make any structural changes. Many of the bigger cruiser use this method. Good luck Ken S/V Spanish Eyes #6049

Dave do not e-mail Catalina

Dave I have read many discussions on the catalina 25/250 forum where high praise is given to the responsiveness of Catalina Re questions or problems. That being said the general rule is to call Catalina not e-mail they like the phone and tend to not answer e-mail. I and several people have talked directly to Frank Butler, who usually handles the phone calls himself. Good luck
