Hello all,
I'm new to this forum and the proud owner of a venerable C27.
Besides greeting everyone on the site, I have a question (one of many more to come LOL).
I have a 2 cyl. gasoline inboard on my 1971 C27 #48. I have not pulled the engine yet for inspection and overhaul and have not found any ID as to make.
Does anyone have an idea what this mystery engine might be?
Thanks for any info.
Steve

Steve......... go over to the international catalina owners assoc. website Click on "C27"... then select the "C27 Profile" button. Within the context of the article there is a discussion on engines..... an excerpt:
"Some boats were fitted with a 6*horsepower Petter, which is a cranky machine under the best of conditions and doesn't provide much oomph"

It would be to your great benefit to thoroughly study this site..... you may find yourself wishing you'd found it BEFORE you bought your boat.... or maybe patting yourself on the back for choosing well.

Can you take a picture of the motor? Mine was a 15 hp 2 cycle Zephyr with an OMC saildrive.

Hi and thanks for the info.
I can't get a pic as the boat is 1100 miles away, but I can say that the first thing visible, after opening the compartment door, is the flywheel with starter ring. Additionally, it is a shaft drive rather then the OMC.
Thanks again,
Steve

Thanks

Thank you for the great site!
I am "patting myself on the back".
Who knows what the mystery motor is?
I have a Yanmar YSB12 to repower with.
I just thought it might be easier to rebuild the exhisting engine as it turns over. The Yanmar will be a tight squeeze.
Thanks again.
Steve

If the flywheel is visible it could be a Palmer engine. I hear Universal even made a few Atomic 2's.
Hard to tell without a pic or two. A previous owner could have installed almost any engine.

Atomic 2

Hi and thanks for the info.
I'm kicking myself about not taking pics when I had the chance. As I mentiioned, I was so set on installing the Yanmar, I paid scant attention to the engine.
The idea of a diesel under the hood is still apealing.
I'll see what info is available on the Palmer and the Atomic 2s
Thanks again,
steve
