The tank sending unit for my fuel gage is stuck in the "full" position; ie meaning that it's stuck in a "v" shape, do it won't come out of the tank without some force which is likely to break the float off in the tank. With only the mounting hole for access (no inspection hole) it will difficult to fish the broken float from the tank.

Does anyone have a suggestion?

one of the first thing every pilot learns is that the only reliable fuel gauge is worn on your wrist. determine how much fuel you use per hour and keep track. being conservaive isn't a bad idea.

Did later models have a fuel gauge? my 1980 C27 does not, and I was thinking of replacing the Hobbs meter (engine hours) with a fuel-quantity indicator. the existing fuel tank has an indicator at the tank only.

I used a dremel tool to cut away a small piecee of the fiberglass over the mounting hole. This way the old one comes easily out and new sending unit slipped right in, with mounting holes easily in reach. Fuel consumption on the M18 is less than a gallon per hour at 2600rpm, so figure with a full tank you have around 20 hrs of full throttle fuel available. That's a lot of engine time.
