Did that shark mind you taking his picture? What kind of camera and how did you get the underwater photography? It's sure is beautiful there. Last June my wife and I spent a week on St. Johns. Sitting on the beaches and watching all the boats created lots of dreams. Hope to do the same trip someday if I can convince her. You rented a monohull. What kind was it? I like the way the wheel pivoted out of the way.

Great trip. Must be a bummer being back!

He did not mind. Nurse sharks are mostly nocturnal although they like to bite divers when they tug on their tails. Some divers are pretty stupid. This photo was taken right after his little brother swam by us. The swimmer was about 3 ft long. The one on the bottom was 5-6ft.

The underwater camera was a Sea & Sea MX10 with strobe. This is a film camera using iso 400 film and then digitized at 300dpi. Although it has been a great camera I will probably sell it. Next trip I want a digital underwater camera.

The boat was a Sunsail Oceanis 423(3 cabin, 3 head Beneteau). It was comfortable inside and sailed fairly well. Nothing like my Ericson for performance but it got us to our
destinations.

The wheel pivot is a great feature except you cannot use the cockpit table when in the folder position. A boat we chartered a few year back in the Abacos had a cooler in the table so cold beer was always in reach. I like that feature better!

Great Pics, I'm very jealous! That's a great idea about the cooler in the table, my wife won't have to go as far to get me my beer :naughty:

Just for fun, look at the view counts in your alblum for the pictures of your wife and the pictures of fantastic scenery and exotic wildlife. A thouroughly scientific measure of what aspect of cruising sailors are really interested in:)

None taken... BTW, who would be stupid enough to pull on the tail of a shark while in the water??? That is like trying to rob a bank full of FBI agents... don't laugh, it has happened. :)

Evidently there are a lot of stupid divers out there. From scubadiving.com:

Nurse Shark (Ginglymostoma cirratum)

During the day they are normally found sleeping on the bottom under ledges. They are one of the few sharks that have the ability to bite its tail. Because they look harmless, divers have been known to grab them by the tail, causing the nurse to turn and bite its tormentor. This has made the nurse shark the most common shark involved in human shark attacks. Fortunately it has very small teeth and the bites are seldom serious. On our shark dives the nurse sharks like to harmlessly cuddle up to divers. They range in size from 5' to 9', reaching a maximum length of 14'. They have two barbells on their upper lip. Both of their dorsal fins are approximately the same size and are set far back on their body. They lack a noticeable lobe on their tail. It feeds primarily at night on bottom-dwelling invertebrates, such as lobster and other crustaceans. Mating is in the spring. During this time, the female swims into shallow water to avoid mating with undesirable males. The males bite onto her pectoral fins and try to drag her into deeper water to mate. She finally submits when she decides the male is desirable. There are several areas in the Exumas where nurse sharks are known to mate.
