BVI conditions in March

We are planning a bareboat trip in the BVIs for 2009. This will be my first trip there and the only time we can all agree on is early March. What weather/sailing conditions can I expect during that time? I have looked at some of the online almanacs but wanted to hear from other sailors who may have been there at that time in the past.

Any time is great in BVI except hurricane season. Still high season cost wise for charters

You'll have a great time.

You're certain to have a great time in the BVI. Actually, we don't hesitate to go during the early part of hurricane season (we like June) as the cost is much less and the chance of having a charter interrupted by weather is very slim. None of our eight trips has been impacted by weather. March should be fine, just wanted to indicate that parts of hurricane season can be too.

I chartered there in March about two years ago and had good winds inside the strait, typically about 15kts, but also with more squalls than we anticipated. Rough enough outside the strait to force some boats to avoid going outside, or cancel previous plans and come back inside. One group even decided to hole up in the Bitter End and just do day sails from there. But if you're happy just island hopping inside the strait you're pretty much guaranteed a good time, no matter what the weather.
