Admiral & I planning BVI charter for last week of February with another couple. #1) Is air conditioning necessary at this time of year? #2) We have quotes from company "Bareboats BVI." Any feedback on this company? #3) Renting either 42' Jeanneau ds or 42' cc Beneteau both of 2003 vintage. Comments? Thanks.

No AC needed, not this time of year. We were there in early March, 08. Great sailing ahead. The BVI is great.
We used Virgin Island Sailing Ltd. 800-382-9666. They put us on a Beneteau 33. We worked through the Moorings in Road Town, Tortola.

We have chartered in the BVI several times and have never had AC. The only time that we have felt hot was when spending the first night of the charter on the boat in the marina in June. Even in the summer it is confortable once you are out of a sheltered marina. Feb. should be fine without AC. The BVI is like Disneyworld for a sailor. You'll love it.
I am not familiar with "Bareboat BVI". However, when looking at their website, they appear to be a charter broker of some sort. Two of the Jeanneau 42 DS's (and many of the other boats) they are chartering are in the TMM fleet and are very nice boats. I would imagine that all of the boats listed are in charter with different actual charter companies in the BVI. We have always gone directly to TMM for chartering in the BVI. If you look at the TMM website you will see information on the two non-air conditioned 42DS's. I do not have any idea what the pros and cons are of using the services of a company that appears to be a charter broker.

I'd take a pass on "Air". The cabins have fans and they usually come equipped with "Chute-Scoops"
I live aboard in a 51 Beneteau in St. Croix. It's an ex charter boat and I installed A/C's for marina living. However once at anchor, open all the hatches and enjoy the breeze. You may want to ask about a wind scoop for those days and nights when there is very little breeze (rare).
