I'm moving my boat from Narragansett bay to Buzzard's Bay this season. I'm lokking for a couple of nice places to go to anchor for lunch. Also a good destination for a couple of weekend trips.

Plymouth Harbor

Good restaurants on the waterfront including Weathervane, Isaacs, the Marina and Mama Mias for lunch. Also, July 4th fireworks (not a bad display) and tourist attractions.

Hope you are looking for more wind.

Hope you like more wind and waves, Buzzards Bay has a well deserved reputation for bring alot rougher than Narragansett. try Cuttyhunk, Haddles (sp). Russell

That what I've heard

Russell That's what I've heard, that when the winds come out of the Southwest that the chop in Buzzard's can really build up since it is kinda shallow. I will miss Narragansett, but since I've moved from Rhode Island to Massacusetts I wanted the boat closer. Currently my boat is still in Warwick, I'll be sailing her from Greenwich bay to New Bedford.

Quissett et al

Scott, I have only sailed in Buzzzard's Bay a few times on my way around from Dennis on the South Side of the Cape to Dennis on the North side of the Cape (and points beyond in Cape Cod Bay. Yes it can be bumpy, but the winds are also dependable which is nice for us sailor types. My wife and I love spending the night in Quissett harbor, just north of Wood's Hole nin Falnouth. You just go in and pick up a mooring ball and they come around later and pick up the ten bucks or whatever. Just arrive while it is still light, and you will have no trouble. Always lots of sailboats, and it is quiet and idyllic. No restaurants or services, just a snug harbor full of sailboats bigger and more expensive than yours or mine. We have also gone into Red Brook Harbor and you can dock and dine at Kingmans which is fun, and there are two good boatyards there for repairs. Kingmans is on the Cape side too, in Pocasset I think. We have not ventured into the South Shore MA harbors like new Bedford/ Dartmouth etc., but I would like to. Nor to Cuttyhunk, but that is on my list. I would even like to make it to Dutch Harbor and on to Warwick! It is also fun to time the trip thru the canal on slack or fair tide and go over to Wellfleet. Or time the trip the same way and come thru Wood's Hole to visit on Martha's Vineyard or Cape Harbors. There are a few, and the water is thin, but it is fun. I particularly like visiting Cotuit. Buzzards Bay

Scott, try Cuttyhunk for lunch or the weekend, but arrive early to assure getting a mooring in the harbor and not outside (gets bumpy). For a good lunch or overnite try the eastern side of Weepecket Island just off of the Elizabeth Islands in the bay, you can anchor in pretty close and swim or dinghy to shore and check out the bird life. Anchoring on the eastern side will protect you from the prevailing SW wind. Also, Hadley Harbor at the head of the Elizabeths out of Woods Hole is quiet and protected, again arrive early. I sailed there for a few years and miss it now that I'm up on the north shore. Usually light to no wind in the morning, slowly building into the early afternoon when it kicks up a steep chop due to the bays shallowness. This makes for some invigorating sailing along with the pot warps. Have fun out there.

Mattapoisett

My home port is Mattapoisett Boat Yard and it is a great place. If your looking for a fine ($$$) lunch / dinner try the Mattapoisett Inn. It's a block from the town dock. I'll second Roger's comment concerning Quisset harbor it's a outstanding spot. Basset Island, and WildHarbor are also nice. I am certain you will love Buzzards Bay.
