I met a Hunet owner yesterday (44' AC -2004)that told me he bought his boat directly from the factory and not through a dealer (saving him a hugh amount of $$). I did not know that was possible. Has anyone else ever heard of this. I e-mailed the Hunter Sales staff but have not received a reply. Since I am ready to pull the trigger on a new boat, I would appreciate any feed back from Hunter Owners. Jerry

I don't believe that is possible

I'll bet there was a dealer involved somewhere.

Especially being in Florida. I can't imagine a

place that would not be within delivery distance. South Dakota might be a different matter . . . .

The only time I almost bought a boat directly..

from the factory was when I thought about a Seaward 25 0r 26. The reason they gave me was that they did not have any dealerships in California. I doubt very much you can buy directly....they will have alot of dealerships really very upset. abe

thanks for nothing

Gee, I must have mistaken this for a forum where one might get an answer from someone that knows. Fact: I saw the boat and the invoice from the factory, along with the Bill of sale. So far the replies to the post have been clever, thoughtful, witty, humorous, or opinions. None however really answers my question.

Well If you think about it

Not many folks do it this way so there are not many folks that would know. If lots of folks did this then you would surly have better luck finding one here. I imagine there is a reason not many folks do it this way too. The dealerships would go crazy from the loss of sales and the factory is not staffed to handle the world wide demand of "fixing all those little problems" that QC did not catch.

Heath, toes a little raw?

To quote you........ ........Has anyone else ever heard of this....... ...............I would appreciate any feed back............. Guess you don't want to hear that many have not and consider it less than likely. Guess you don't want to hear "any feed back". Maybe you should change your post to.... "Tell me what I want to hear. Don't bother with any objective feedback." Don't mean to be a hard keel, but get it right if you are to criticize. We are a helpful bunch, but don't mistake that for us being dock mats.

Everything is possible but what you describe

is highly unlikely especially here in Florida. There could be a perfectly good reason why the invoice and bill of sale may have been drawn that way but surely a dealer was involved in that transaction even if it was to prep and deliver the boat. Get more information to from your friend. Our crystal ball can only see so far. As far as mistaking the forum, don't take it to heart some people have.

"thanks for nothing"..sorry we didn't meet your

expectations. Learn to be a little more grateful to those who are trying to help. Geee why don't you just call the factory directly...its that a smart enough answer for you. abe

Didn't mean to hurt feeling and didn't need to be

Have a call in to the dealer as well as an e-mail to the lead sales rep. Absent a response from them I thought I would go directly to the owners forum. I am appreciative of helpful feed back and I enjoy the witty and clever one liners, as well as an opinion, But the fact remains I was looking for someone to confirm or deny. I did not get that. What I got was well intended banter and chit chat but not a definitive answer to my question. It is okay to say I don't know if ones does not know. Dealers mark up on new hunters is between 15 - 20 percent for the boat. The extras or upgrades whether ala cart or in packages are marked up typically 35 -40 percent for the item's cost from the factory. Yes a dealer will still charge for commissioning an 80-100 $ an hour for installing after market items. Anyone can see that factory ordered boats with factory installed upgrades cuts the dealer out of a mark up profit. They still will take delivery and make money on the commissioning plus the follow up yard services. Any hunter dealer world wide will handle warranty issues and serve as verification and legitimacy of the claims between Hunter and the Owner. It happens that way with many many boat builders for new boats. Most of a dealer profits are actually driven by the used boat market, since that is the bulk of their sales. I Just ask if anyone had any in formation on Hunter's policy. I already know that they have done it as recently as 2004. I have no dog in this fight other than taking the opportunity to ask Hunter Owners directly. Something I find as a valuable resource. Banter and humor have a place when intermixed with information pertaining to the topic. By the way, other than acting as the moral and sensitive police, what else did you offer on topic? But what do I know I am new to this forum, maybe here I was off base asking the question and should have sought out other forums.. Jery

gee thanks for the lecture Heathj9999

Gee, thanks for the lecture about the marine dealer network. After you've asked for information you find it necessary to reply "thanks for nothing"... didn't your mother teach you any manners?

Unfortunately in this world, nothing is free.

If you have the need to ask a question in this forum about a topic or an item it is because you lack the knowledge in that repect. The price you pay for asking the question is to have to read through all the well intententioned but perhaps irrelevant answers. It seems you may have paid dearly. I wish I could direct you to another forum where answers to questions are short to the point and percise but I admit my ignorance as I do not know of any. You want free stuff you got to pay for it. Lets go sailing guys.

So why are you asking here?

"Fact: I saw the boat and the invoice from the factory, along with the Bill of sale" Seems like you already have the answer. You are looking for someone that has bought direct from Hunter and yet you already know someone. Ask him!!!

last post - end of thee story

Had a response (voice mail)from Hunter sales department. Message said they DO NOT sell from the factory to individuals, only through authorized dealers. Message also said that it is not to say that it may have happened before but that is not the company practice or policy. Just in case anyone wanted to hear the out come of the communications.
