Catalina 250 -
I am very interested in a 2002 Catalina 250. Its a at Catalina Dealer/Broker. 2 questions:1 What is reasonable to offer w/o sounding like an idiot. 2. I called the scuba company who said they clean the boat monthly and that is boat is in great shape below the water line. Can I trust them or should I do survery at cost of $10 per foot plus $200 to pull it out of water. Thanks all and wish me luck. Piseas

Save your money

In theory, you shouldn't need a survey; even massive neglect (which would be obvious) couldn't do much to a boat that is 4 years old and is Fiberglas. I don't know how long a Catalina warranty goes for but I wouldn't pay for a survey. I know this is counter to most thinking, but even a car if reasonably used will not pose problems at four years old. I would ask in another thread what are common problems for a Catalina 250, one that is only five years old or younger and when some problems are presented, print the list out and check your boat for these problems. Might even be worth phoning Catalina to see if any warranty is left on the boat. Make sure the engine runs, check out all the sails, and go for a test sail, then on a really rainy day go to the marina and ask to see inside - check for water leaks.

Catalina 250 Wing Keel Eugene, OR
Just bought one

I just bought a 2000 C250 wing keel with wheel steering, depth, speed, Autohelm, mast mounted VHF, poptop enclosure, galvanized trailer, Honda 9.9hp electric start OB, furler, etc all in great shape for $20k. My research indicates that the wing keels sell for more than the water ballast models. I know of a 1998 wing keel in Alameda for $13k but no trailer.
