buying a Javelin

I would like to learn to sail on our nearby 400 acre lake. I have a friend who is selling a 14 " Javelin. I don't know the age or even what questions to ask. (Maybe 20 yrs old?) It appears to be in fairly good shape. the hull needs to have the wood replaced inside, but I think my friend will do that for me. What might I expect to pay?Thanks Suellen
