We need to buy a replacement mainsail for "Fiona", our 1990 Catalina 30 WK/TR. Our old mainsail has four batten pockets. The pocket opening is located midway between the luff and leech. Each batten consists of a two piece set that occupies the pocket. The batten set is made tight by "push-push" covers inside the pocket.

I don't see this batten option on any of the sail vendor sites. Should I just order new battens with the new sail and forget the old pairs of four battens? If so, do you prefer half or full battens?

Appreciate your interest.

You should be talking to a sailmaker. But, whenever you buy a new mainsail, the sailmaker will supply you with new battens so you can just forget about the old battens and not consider using them in the new mainsail. You can order all full battens, or partial battens, or maybe the top batten full and the rest partial, or 2+2 (if you boat has 4 total), etc. Your sailmaker can go over these details with you.

Barnacle Bill is correct. We offer traditional 4 partial batten, 4 full batten and the 2+2 which is very popular. Give me a call if you'd like to discuss.
