I love to sail and have been using a frends boat for 4 years. He just moved to MO and now I'm looking for advice on buying a 14 foot sailboat. Any Ideas?

A few more details needed.

Bob, Give us a few details as to what type of sailing you want to do. There are quite a few options (day sailors, lasers, catamarans, etc.) that depend on your preferences. In addition to a 22 foot O'Day, I have a little 12 foot Topper which is a little scow. It is a riot to sail in light and medium winds. You get wet but you really fly when the wind kicks up. I also sail a friends hobie cat (16 foot) and it is a bit more work to rig, but it is also a lot of fun especially in light winds. If you prefer not to get wet, there are other boats in the 14-16 foot range that would work better. With a few more details, you can get some good advice from this forum. Best regards, Dave s/v Hakuna Matata O'Day 222

Boat buying or making!

Have you considered a catamaran? I'm sailing a monohull now but when I started, I beg my father to buy me a sunfish. He decided to make a sailboat and order some parts and plans from Glen-L Designs. Over eight months we had a fiberglass on wood catamaran. For sailing at that size there is no better way of experiencing the speed and enjoyment of sailing than sailing a catamaran. Names such as NACRA, Hobie, Prindle, Tornado etc. boats to look at.

Where are you in MO

Depending on where you are in the State may help you decide what to buy. We sail in NW MO. Lake is not crowded and the water is nice this time of year. Will get colder sooner then southern lakes. Welcome to MO. Jeff
