I'm thinking of buying a 1994 23.5 Hunter. Is there anything specifically I should be looking for when inspecting this boat. I noticed a small split in the fiberglass where the base of the stern meets the bottom of the boat by the rudder. Is this a known problem and can it be easly repaired?

Had a 1993 H23.5

On my previous boat a 1993 Hunter 23.5 the outboard engine bracket was a U shaped fiberglass one. On my I go hairline cracks in the bottom of the U which water got into and the interior wood got very soft and began bending down. If the 94 model stills has the fiberglass engine bracket you may need to replace it

Split at transom

I too have a crack at the place were it seams the hull form meets the transom or deck form during the assembly process. I trailered the boat up to the factory (from Orlando) for some warranty trailor work and the shop people said it was a superficial crack from stress and did not go deep. He took out a router and like a dentist cleaned out matirial on the surface to expose solid glass just below crack, filled it and I was fine for several years. The crack is back (by the rudder like yours) but I'm not all that concerned this time. The only water I have seen in the boar was from rain. Cpt Matt
