Looking to rebed the windows in my '76 C22. I got the kit from CD and with lots of great info from sites like Chip Fords I've been gathering various tidbits of information. I am now leaning toward NOT using the silicon and 4200 included in the kit and instead using 1/16"x1/2" butyl tape. The fit around the glass and in the gasket looks pretty darn close to perfect to me. Anyone use butyl tape for this project before...?

Butyl tape is the way to go. Much easier and cleaner. I used 1/8" X 3/4 " tape that I bought on Ebay. Mainesail also has it for sale. It was originally used on my C-27 by Catalina. Use paint reducer to remove the remaining old stuff after you scrape off the bulk of it. I tried every thing else but the reducer work the best. I think I made a really poor quality video of it. I'll see if I can find and post.

Do not use buytl if you have plastic (lexan or acrylic) windows, if you have glass it is your best option.
Butyl tape works great on the extruded aluminum Catalina windows. Are you asking about the frame to hull seal or the glass to frame seal?? Glass to frame should ideally be a gasket. They can dry out & leak but I believe Catalina direct has the gasket material available..
Thanks all. Maine Sail I was looking to use the butyl tape I purchased from Compass Marine and use it not only in the gasket to glass seal but also the glass to frame and the aluminum frame to hull seal. Just seems that it would be ideal for all locations...
In theory it certainly should work. My only concern is getting it into the aluminum channel for the glass and getting it "just right". If you try it please let me know how it works and please take some pics!!
