caguy, YUP that's it!

IMHO I really like that. It lends itself to the burgee shape well. I wouldn't mind seeing the backwards "print-through" of the lettering. It would be pretty easy to get the idea anyway. Thanks again!

#2 looks like something from a cheap YC

while #3 has STYLE and class. Very few sailboats have red trim or canvas and most of those I've seen fade quickly and look fatigued. Many folks with Catalinas have complained over the years to the factory that the red on their logos on their mainsail covers have faded. Why use red?

It was always my understanding

that blue reflected that harmful UV, while the red just soaks it up and crumbles away!

voting for Phil's

I like Phil's.....with the "SBO" only and swoosh going through it.

That's the spirit Bob, the more ideas and

suggestions the better. Now just flip the sails so they are being blown in the right direction assuming you're headed up and not down wind. Frank

SBO?

Until this thread, SBO was meaningless to me. Unless the standard graphic is altered to be more meaningful than the swoosh, I think you need to spell it out. The problem then is it will only be visible very, close up.

I really, really, really...

...like the one Bob Poff did. Thinking outside of the box...does the burgee have to be a certain size...in other words could it be a little longer and get the name spelled out...perhaps even a little larger? I really see this as a neat tool to cause folks to ask about it...and to recognize our own! Just my opinion! Jack

Original Design w/ 3 inputs

#1) There's something to be said for not having SBO on it - if they know what the burgee means then there's no need for letters, but if they don't, then they can ask. So my vote would be for something more like the original design but without letters. I like the flowing design of the original. Might want the jib to be a little less 'artistic' and more realistic but I'm easy. #2) As for input, with regard to the squirrelly shape: What about if there was some kind of V or Check symbol that would simulate the bow cutting through the water. Either added to the wave symbol or in addition to the 'wave'? #3) Third input, re computer url symbol - it looks good!

*5 Way to go Bob, gets my vote!

1st and foremost, it matches my boat. 2nd, it lets others know who we are. 3rd, another SailboatOwners.com member will recognize sails logo and colors from a distance. You don't have to be able to read the letters to see the general shape and layout or the burgee. 4th, not that grammar and spelling is ever important on this forum, SBO is grammatically incorrect. Google it! 5th, it has a nice grass roots feel about it while still incorporating elements of the original logos and designs. 6th, it looks damn good, imho. With all due respect to Phil and associates after all it is his joint. I would like to suggest that he solicit more designs, make a contest of it and submit them to a vote. Winner gets a free membership. Frank

amazing

Bob's wins in either direction. It has the danforth anchor thing going, sailboat and clear message. Now do one for the Edgewater Mairna Boat Club. Ours sucks. Not the burgee, but our club sign. I was going to carve one, if my arms and hands hold up to it. I was thinking of a ribbon top and bottom with welcome on the bottom one. Not sure of a middle since there are stinkpotters in the group.

Nice simplicity

Mark Burrows point is well taken. And a very nice orginal idea. The simple nature of the design makes it stand out more. It's great for users of the site to pick each other out of a crowd.

From "what to do and not do on burgees"

"What to avoid, is lettering on the flag. This increases the complexity of the flag, and the letters will read in reverse on the back side. If letters are to be employed, keep the number of letters to a minimum and keep them simple block letters. Avoid stylistic letters like typewriter characters or old English font."

I like bob Poffs.

If the colors fade its a good thing-- you get to sell another flag. Seriouly Bob flag does the job. its neat and will last a long time if made of good materials. i fly a 1O year old red burgee all the time. In Florida!

I really like Bob Poff's too...

The down wind or up wind ones. Something about the boat hull not level with the stripe "horizon" is disconcerting to me. If the lettering has to go so be it. It still looks great with just the swish. Great job you guys.
