Hi Phil, I prefer the sailboat icon in one...

of the earlier posts. The one by Bryon Thomas in reply #4, perhaps with the addition of a cursive SBO along the hull line beneath or above the swoosh. See link. http://www.sailboatowners.com/forums/pviewall.tpl?fno=122&uid=73209969137&SKU=2007345104000.37 The one above just has no personality, IMHO. Terry

A concern about that

I agree that's a nice image, but I'm concerned about the busyness of it. Check out this collection: http://www.mmyc.org/mmycburgeecollection.html The ones that work best are the simplest. Bold letters and blocks of color. The finer the detail the less impact. And I suspect that will be even more true from 50 yards. But again, just one opinion. Looking forward to more!

Putting it on a burgee shape makes a difference

Without looking at it on the triangle shape of a burgee I am inclined to choose #4 as a favorite too. Having said that, I like the two designs above very much.

Gotta have a

sailboat on it...I opt for the stylized sailboat used for this site..instantly recognizable....

caguy .... I like your thinking ...

Spelling out "SailBoatowners.com" may not be conventional, but I still like it. I don't know why but I'm not crazy about "SBO" for some reason (but if you did use the 3 letters, why not make them vertical along the left edge. S B O I like the idea of #3 but it looks funny to have the sailboat sailing downhill. With the triangular burgee, it is difficult to incorporate that idea. What I like most is the way #2 stands out. I think the blue swoosh on the white background is very nice, so I have a further suggestion utilizing the layout of #2. I think the red that is in the heading of this forum is very attractive. I would make the white background a band that goes across the middle of the burgee. Then have the upper third and the lower third a red field. In the upper field at the left corner, put a white sail or sailboat emblem. The one that you are showing may be a little too busy so maybe that should be simplified so it pops out more nicely. Something like the Kona Kai YC emblem would work well. caguy, you made some nice drawings ... could you do my suggestion?

caguy, thanks for laying these out.

I like the second #3 but can you try... Get the sailboat and swish as large as possible in the position it is in now. Fill the pointy end of the flag with the url in possibly larger font. This way with the larger details it may be easier to see from afar. Thanks!

Why does it have to be a burgee?

Why not a standard flag size to fly under the starboard spreader? I still like the simple graphic with no text. If one is tired of telling people about SBO, one need not fly anything.

See from "afar" ???

C'mon it's a burgee for goodness sakes. I can't see the one up the spreaders on my own boat :) I also agree with Brian, a flag does seem even better than a burgee. Swoosh is great. Lettering optional, I don't mind explaining, gets us to meet new people, as in: "Hey, what's that flag up there?"

Hey Stu Jackson...

...the part I like even better is that I might see one 'aflyin' as Buffett would say and go find out who it is! Jack As for the design, I am sure whatever we wind up with will look 'kewl'!

Definately needs the sailboat logo

imho. The letters lead the jokers to come up with plenty of wisecracks about what they might stand for! Perhaps the boat, the swoosh below looking like water, and the URL at the bottom?

I reiterate....Keep It Simple S*****. The sailboat logo with the swoosh underneath is a basic, simple, non-cluttered design. I agree with other comments posted here; It will serve as a conversation starter when somebody asks me about it. It will help me ID other SBO users in an anchorage. Both of the above will help me make new friends or solidify online friendships. If someone asks me about the burgee, sailboatowners.com is pretty simple to remember. I also have "Boat Cards" with my personal/boat info that I give to new sailing friends. It's very easy to write the web address on the back. K.I.S.S. Tom s/v Orion's Child

Lose the name

The name of the site makes me think advertising more than association. I realize that's part of the purpose but, subtlety has its place. Otherwise, #3 has my vote. It will start conversations. Barring that, would it be possible to form the name in the shape of the swoosh rather than overlay it?

#3 is starting to look good!

How about ... The left half is a background of red with the head sail and the main sail a solid white (there would be no outline and the mast - actually it is the space between the sails ahead of the mast - would be transparent (red). I like the way the swoosh pops out in blue with the white background. So either make the right half white or make a white band for the swoosh and have a blue background above and below the band (as in #1 except just for the right half. Make the band narrower though, not a full third of the height. It just needs to be wide enough to background the swooosh, so the upper and lower backgrounds can be wider. I like "SailBoatOwners.com" printed out in the band, but if most folks don't think that is good, I would go along with not having it. I'm just not crazy about the letters "SBO" so I would leave that out altogether instead of spelling it out. I like the color red because it really stands out and it makes me think of "red sky at night, sailors delight, red sky in morning, sailors take warning" I like the burgee more than the flag idea; but I would buy either one. The elements I like most are the swoosh, the sails (but I think the outlined version of the sails doesn't pop out enough) and the red color. The red has to be right, though. The color we see is in the heading of this forum is what I like ... it has a rich color (a little more like a burgundy). I like the bumper sticker idea with "SBO" ;)

My last thought ... I promise!

With the sails, and the swoosh as oriented in #3 from caguy (and no lettering), the burgee is reversable and you don't have to worry about reading in reverse if there is any transparency.
