On my boat, the aft bulkheads that seperate the cabin from the cockpit lockers are offset. I was wondering if this was true on all challengers.

Hi Whit, I'm not sure but I think so

but I will check. I wonder if the original layout including the hanging locker to starboard had anything to do with it? I have a suspicion this is a weak area on these boats. I believe mine settled in this area as the aft cabin side split long ago and was filled with a strip of wood, about 1/4"

Also, long ago someone built another icebox in the port cockpit locker which blocks the bulkhead. I will likely remove it soon when I do some cockpit repairs however, it works out well for storing trash, it's llined in SS but useless for insulating ice.

What are your concerns?

Both bulkheads have been damaged by moisture and are delaminating. They appear to offer support to the forward end of the cockpit. I have added a leg on either side of the cockpit for additional support. I then cut out the old bulkheads and fitted new ones. I briefly toyed with the idea of moving the Starboard one aft to give me a larger hanging locker & line up with the port side, but there is a seacock in the way. The electrical box, under the companion way covers up the jog.
I am replacing the counter top as well in an effort to keep the fumes from the diesel out of the cabin.
