I have seen many Cat 30 in pictures and in person, but the Cat I bought has what I believe must of have been placed by previous owner, if you can see in the pic the V-Berth has a very small entrance, very hard to enter. have any of you seen this before? is it a certain model? can I cut the opening more? any help will be appreciated, regards, Dan

Are you talking about the entrance underneath the v berth? Or the actual entrance to the v berth? I can see much in the picture, what year is your 30?

entrance...

Well if you can see the the entrance to the V-berth is very small and the front bottom of the V-berth is blocked, there is an access door to that space, the weird thing is it looks very well done, like it came that way, it is a 1977

starboard

Moody, thanks for the info, yes, if I could cut (shave) maybe 6 inches of the starboard side of the opening it would make a world of difference. It seems that it has a Bulkhead aft to the old hanging locker and the other one in question. The one aft of the hanging locker where the rigging reinforcement is, is not very good, so maybe they decided to reinforce a little by the V-berth. it just makes the V-berth seem so tight, it feels as your crawling into a small cave, granted they are small as it is, but the opening just kills it. Thanks, Dan

Happy to help :)

Take a close look at the bulkheads that have the chainplates on them. They have been known to dry rot if there has been any water leak at the deck. They should be 3/4" marine ply. Catalina screwed all the bulkheads into the liner. Check all the screws to make sure they are tight. When I replaced the stb bulkhead on my boat I bolted it to the liner and epoxied it in.

Chainplates..

The wood has some rott where the chaiplates are because of water, the Cat has been sitting on the Water for almost 1 1/2 years, althought it seems pretty sturdy, did you replace all wood, and is this a do it yourself proyect? Thanks!
