Have the hole cut and am ready to mount the bulkhead compass. Question is: exterior side has a rubber gasket between the compass and the gelcoat. Do I need to use an adhesive ie..silicon or can I rely on the plastic thru bolts to hold the compass in place with the gasket? worried about water leaking behind the compass if I do not use a sealant any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks

You should be fine with just the gasket. Make sure both surfaces (bulkhead and compass) are clean. I had an '83 Cal 25 until 3 years ago. I had to pull a bulkhead mounted depth display and all that was used there was a gasket. Never leaked a drop prior or during my ownership.

Any sealant you could use could also possibly

not be compatible with the gasket provided. What do the instructions that came with the compass say about that?

Epoxy the opening to protect against

humidity, condensation or any leak. The gasket should suffice without need for a sealant.
