Arthur Marine Balboa 20 Ghost Lake
Hello folks,

I've been on the Balboa group on yahoo for a while now and just came across the group here. Having a B20 I love the B20 focus. I'll have to put up some of the information on my reno and some of the questions I have as well as my boat ended up being a COMPLETE gut job. As in a very empty shell when I got it from the PO. This particular B20 is an Arthur Marine variety as best as I can tell from looking at the various brochures of Balboas.

The big thing that I am hoping to do this winter / spring (well one of a few) is to build a pulpit for it and then run out the life lines as I have seen on several others. In cruising through one of the threads on the Restoration of #405 I noticed a reply that caught my attention.

It was a reply from BlackCloud that stated he had built one and had done up a diagram. (If you happen by here BlackCloud and would like to share I would love to get a copy of it and more info on how you did it) This got me wondering if anyone else has built out there own pulpit for a B20? I would love to hear your experiences, did you start from scratch, did you modify an existing pulpit from another boat, or did you buy one and where?

I have been looking for info on a pulpit for the B20 for over a year and was just about to go to a machine shop and see if I could find someone with some skill to bend something out for me. As I said earlier I would like to build out a pulpit for my so if you have any information you can share on this I would greatly appreciate it.

Glad to see this group is here and I will get more info on my little B20 up as soon as I can.

Happy restorations all,

Chad

Pulpits can be either welded or mechanical. You might be able to find a machine shop that has the machinery to bend tubing and weld SS. You will have to supply them with drawings of what you want. You need to define a foot print of the 4 bases, the height of your railing and if you want to attach lifelines, they can weld in some wire anchor points. Otherwise you can go to a company like Tops In Quality who build pulpits either welded or mechanical. The mechanical ones are not as strong, but suffice, and they can be shipped in parts (UPS), while a welded pulpit might have to be shipped via truck (more money). Or, you can maybe find a used one, but the footprint has to work.

Bow railing info.

Hi Chad,

I made my bow railing with mechanical fitting. They or some of those used in a bimini top. It makes for a sturdy unit. The diagram I have is in CorelDraw file format. I can send that to you and the can retrieve dimensions off the drawing using the software, or I can add some labels, and convert it to some other format for you. Let me know what would work best for you.

I will also put in some note on construction.

Let me know what you need.
