For the Mainers that are sailing in the cold north......just swim out there and pick 'em up.

For someone who lets a Sea Ray scare him off a lovely BEACH, I am surprised you let Crustacean on your boat.

These are first symptoms of over Sun exposure combined with Bahama Mama alcohol poisoning.

Only known cure...

Short term SNOW exposure in heavy wool underwear!

Get the the cure...

Most bugs are edible
We eat Louisiana Mud Bugs by the 50 lb sack. The are yummy with cold beer.

@All U Get I will trade you 50 lbs of Mud Bugs for 30 lbs of Bahamian water spiders that infested your boat (as shown in pict#2).

Just spent the evening with a couple from Japan, we eat quite conservatively. Anything with 6 legs is good, or is it 8? Their plans are islands, canal, trade winds, then Japan by July. And we thought we made a big trip.

Alright, you're having too much fun. Time to come back.
We have no degrees (Meaning there are zero degrees, none, nada, zippo) here and you can't evade Karma by running off the the Bahamas and having a grand old time. "You have to suffa.... suffa, if you want to sing the blues!" Spring will be just another day for you.
OK, I was very close to jumping on Anthem of the Seas for a ride down south today. What could go wrong?

No need to bring a boat, here's the rental unit complete with a Hinkley picnic boat to tour around in.

Wow, looks great. We don't have those kind of bugs here. Ours are only about 3 inches long or less and the season is only 3 days long. We are 48 degrees north, but the other coast.

Spider or crab...both arachnids. Our cat used to hunt and devour spiders. You could tell they were a delicacy to the little dude...like blue crabs.

Our bug season ends next month. I need to get out and get some soon or I will have to wait until July for the season to reopen.

I recall some maxim about months with an "R" in them, but I suppose Florida has other laws.

That's was for oyster safety, and is a complete myth. By not eating oysters in the summer months May June July August etc it was supposed to give you less of a chance of bacterial contamination (BAD OYSTERS). Now you just have to know where your oysters are from. Good Oyster distributors can check for this before they end up in restaurants and fish markets. However, most local restaurants still warn of eating raw shellfish for liability reasons. If a restaurant specializes in shellfish (ie a raw-bar) you should be fine. However if oysters are one of 15 appetizers, at a mediocre place far from the coast, I might steer clear.

Our MudBug (crawfish) season is just about to start.. usually early March through mid June.. Ice cold beer with hot boiled crawfish is tough to beat !
My sailing buddy from Annapolis died a few years ago.. but up until that time, every spring we'd ship a hundred pounds or so to Annapolis then me and another Louisiana boy would go up and cook 'em for the party.. Great fun..

How do you catch the little buggers?
The same way you catch a Crab. Use a baited trap. They are being farmed especially in the rice fields that stay flooded part of the year.
@kloudie1 forgot the seasoned boiling pot has new potatoes, corn on cob, whole garlic, mushrooms, cajun sausage, lemons, salt, and cajun seasoning....

is a favorite here.

Now I am hungry.
Jim...

PS: @kloudie1 you let them think it is a crawFISH (or crawDAD if you live north of I-20). Trivia: China took the cajun aquaculture to their rice fields and now export to USA, peeled of course.
