Just took delivery of a new 356 -- still getting the basics together, BBQ grill, spinnaker gear, etc What do you recommend for the bug screen for the companionway -- I have seen the stuff in Chandlery -- is this best -- or are there better solutions? Thx JWE

made some

My daughters made up a screen from some bug netting and fish sinkers. Bug netting, from the camping goods store, cut to fit across the top opeeing and then drape down the vertical opening. Sinkers sown in the hems keep it where you want it. Add a couple of tapes to tie to the winches/lines on cabin top. By draping, you can get in and out easily without removing it each time.

Generic works fine

Just measure the companion way height and width and buy a generic drop screen for your size at your local marine store. The one I bought from Marine West worked fine for 3 weeks in Florida including the Okeechobee Waterway (at night it looks like a locust swarm).

There was a discussion ...

about this a while ago on the big boat forum with lots of really good suggestions. Search the archives under hatch screen and specify the Hunter 356 as the model and I think you'll find it. I don't know if this link will work to take you right there: http://archive.sailboatowners.com/archive/archivepview.tpl?sku=2003161005034.45&forumabr=bb&fno=3&_psamp=psamp&&model=356&forum=none&andor=wo&keyword=hatch%20screen&pr=p&ssite=HOW&srt=pdate&start=8&max=20

356 bug screens

the screens from the chandlery are fine! just buy the large size, the smaller one looks like it will fit but it's a little too small
