I am adding some stainless steel deck plates {2"x4"} under the spinlock rope clutches that I hope will work very well. I would like to buff them up to a mirror shine before I mount them. Any suggestions on what I want to use? Thanks, Don

What is the finish you are starting with?

Mill finish? Start with a belt sander. Cold rolled finish? start with a belt sander with finer grit. then go to finer grit and after you pass 600 grit wet sanding then you can start with the cloth wheel and the buffing compounds. Wear gloves.the piece will get hot. wear a face shield. the buffing compound goes flying everywhere. be patient. It takes a long time to get to mirror finish when you are using home shop tools.

Stainless

Be sure any abrasives or wire brushes you may us does NOT contain any steel, example a steel brisled wire brush or emery cloth. Steel particals from a steel wire brush or abrasive will inpregnate the stainless steel and cause rust spots.
