Hi Tim - Thanks for offering your time and advice! I noticed another thread earlier this week where someone was inquiring about whether there was any merit to paying extra for a Bruce anchor when the Simpson Lawrence Claw appears to be about the same quality and shape. Do you have any opinion here? Thanks, Trevor

A bias response

I read within the past year on an anchoring test where the Simpson Lawrence Claw did not hold as well as the Bruce anchor, although it was the same weight and design. In fact, if I remember correctly, it was the poorest at getting set. The fascinating question is why the difference in results when they appear to be the same weight, size and shape. I don't remember the publication--senior moment. I own the 33 lb Bruce which I use as a primary anchor on my H380. I'm pleased with it. The Bruce is made in Scotland. Why the bias? I play the bagpipes and wear the kilt.

Bruce anchor

Hello Trevor The Geometery is the same for both anchors. Both are made by well known manfacturers. One is much cheaper in price. I suggest the lower price.

Bruce vs Claw

Hello Trevor, The Simpson Lawrence Claw is a copy of the Bruce. Bruce claims their anchor is stronger. If you've ever heard of anyone breaking their anchor and you're afraid it may happen to you, then buy a Bruce. Otherwise, Claw anchors are about 1/3 the price. As far as I can tell price is the only difference between the two. Tim
