...don't know if you subscribe to PS but, they did a review of the H320 in the Oct. 1 issue. The reviewer(s) stated that in 10-15 knots of wind, the boat was making 4-4.25 knots on a close haul. At 60-70 degrees off the wind, the speed increased to 4.5-4.85 knots. For those windspeeds, that seems a little sluggish to me. Is this kind of performance consistent with your experience? Don't know about the 320, but my 31 would have been doing 5 - 6 knots. Wonder if they know sail trim?

Sorry for the delayed response

I was down in Puerto Rico, unfortunatly for business, not pleasure. I didn't see the review, but I would have to say that they should have used something other than the knotmeter to measure speeds, or the wind strength was 10 or below. I am also finding out that mainsail trim is a little different with the end boom sheeting versus the mid boom arangement that I was used to. In the 10 to 15 knot wind range, I normally see 4.8 to 6+ knots depending on high or low end of the scale and if the wind is constant or gusty. Regards. Bruce. Neon Moon

Thanks, Bruce!

I feel much better now. I have been looking at moving to a larger boat and really like both the 310 and 320 (I'm so undecided what to do at the moment). At the performance recorded by PS, I would have likely passed on the 320. It takes some time to learn the sail trim on any new boat. Maybe Rod is right, the PS crew probably didn't have the boat long enough to know how to trim the sails. Mark Kissel Kittiwake/98H240

Something is wrong there...

I get 4.8 to 6 also and we have the furling main. I can get 3.5 to 4 with just the main with an 18k steady breeze. I think PS is wet on that one.

That's surely what they have. We are routinely in the high fives on a beat in modest blow and pushing 7-7.5 in the upper teens. Perhaps they could back of the CNCS depressants and learn to sail.
