last time I sold a boat, I found a broker that did NOT require an exclusive listing. If I found a buyer, I did not need to pay him anything. All he asked was to keep him informed if I did get a buyer.

He did try to get me to underprice it. I insisted on a higher listing and got every bit of it.

Brokers generally want to list it under the real value so it will sell fast. The 10% of the difference is not worth trying to struggle for. They want the quicker, slightly cheaper sale. You have to do a lot of research on valuations to determine the price for yourself.

If you are not nearby, you do need a very good broker to help with the sale.

good luck

BillyK my boat is in upstate NY on Lake Champlain. I was concerned if I went to a broker a long distance from the boats location that the broker wouldn't have a lot of interest in showing it.

I've only worked with local guys.. you're right, the long distance thing never works. Like dating a woman, you just lose interest after awhile. ;-)

Well I called three brokers about looking at some boats this weekend. Two the phone just rang, no answer machine. The other, that claims contact me 24/7, went straight to voicemail. Still no call. Maybe that means call him on the 24th of july?
