Are there really no archives on repairing/replacing the plunger stops on the traveler on a 1978 Hunter 25? I can't believe I'm the first guy to reach down to pull up on the plastic (Bakelite?) plunger knob to adjust the traveler only to have the knob brake off in his hand. The plastic knob seems to be the weak link in the mechanism. Although, considering its thirty-two years old, I guess I can't complain. :) The parts seem to be machine pressed together. Otherwise, I might have tried to fabricate a new knob. Does anyone know what company produced them (Schaefer, Lewmar)??? And can they be repaired or must they be replaced?

This is the first time I've posted anything. So I hope I've done it right. Any help/info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I would find a surplus store that carries O rimgs. Find a small one that will fill the groove, rout out the old plastic and 5200 in the O ring.
But then again I'm cheap.

Your first post is fine although the script is a bit strange. You might find the stop at Rig-Rite( http://www.rigrite.com/A-Main/traveller_M.html ). But I think you will have to call and probably send your picture. I doubt that you will find it on the website. Regardless you won't like their price. Interestingly my H37C has the same traveler and all still working.

Thanks guys

Ed, I checked with the Rigrite site. Your assumption was correct. I wasn't able to determine the manufacturer. I'll have to email them with the measurements and boat info. We'll see about prices.

CAGuy, I too am cheap. If Ed is right about the price of replacement parts (and he usually is), I will probably be trying to figure out how to implement your suggestion using an O ring, a Dremel tool and 5200. I'm not sure what kind of O ring would be strong enough to replace the hard plastic that was originally used. But I'll keep on it.

Neither of you are as cheap as I am. I'd clamp on a small pair of vise-grips and go sailing.

I thought that these may be from Rutgerson. You may try contacting them to see if that was one of their parts.

It has been many years since I had my H'25 so I am not sure.

Hey Ed, I see what you mean with that font. This is the first time I've viewed this on a real computer. Anyway, I went back to RigRite and I think I've found it. The traveller track appears to be a Nicro-Fico 599. They don't make the exact same adjustable stop anymore. But they do have a replacement for it. It's a NF 586. I'm going to FAX them for a price quote. I'll post the results.
