Broken throttle cable

I have an 84 H31 on which the throttle cable broke this weekend, at the pedestal end, exactly where the cable is swaged into the shaft which is taken up by the throttle lever. My question is, has anybody experienced this, and what did you do to fix it? My hunch is I'll have to buy a complete cable, if so where can I buy it? Thanks for any help. Thanks also to all your good advice on buying this boat! Guy

Try Hunter first.

Guy: I would try Hunter first. If they cannot help you then you can find a Morse cable distributor. Also try a Yanmar dealer.

Same Problem

I broke mine four weeks ago. I am working with my local marine shop, Hoopers Yatchs, to get a new cable installed. They set up a temporary fix for me, and will be removing the broken cable, measuring it, and building a new replacement. Eric Steege s/v Perfect Union, 1984 Hunter 31 Bayport, MN

MORSE CABLE

Guy: Haven't had to replace my throttle cable (yet!), but did install a new engine stop cable recently. Got the cable thru West Marine. Had to special order it, but only took a couple days. While I didn't have to route the cable to its original position, most people I know who have simply taped the cables together end-to-end and ran it through that way. If you want to drop the pan under the helm in the aft cabin you could probably simply run it that way. Good luck. Let us know how it worked out since sooner or later all of us are going to have to experience your "pain." Tim (S/V "TIDE")

Good cables and price at Edson

We had stiff cables and decided to replace before breakage. Got cables from Edson and they fit/worked great. You can also get from Hunter parts dept. I'm sure. Bitch of a job. Slate a whole weekend to avoid stress. Doug

Thanks

Thanks for all the responses - I got the model number CC17210- type 33C from Hunter and purchased a cable from my local marine store - I am now looking forward to the pleasure of installation... Guy
