Dear O'Day owners: Somehow over the winter, the port midship stantion on my 1979 O'Day 25, was snapped at the base, possibly from having a truck back into it... don't know for sure. But now I'm having great trouble finding a replacement as they aren't manufactured by Schaefer anymore. It needs to have a 4° Outboard angle, typical of the 25 footers of that era, in ordr to function properly. Is there a boat graveyard anywhere that might have an old 25' waiting to donate it's organs??? Thanks for the advice. William

Try Rudy

Have you tried Rugy? Look under Resources at the top, then sailing sites he is the first one. Maybe he has some. Good luck, mike

Stanchions

Nobody has these anymore. I bent one a while back, and wound up straightening it. Schaeffer makes a base that looks very close, but the angle is different as you know. Try Railmakers.

Stanchions are a precious comodity

The Shaeffer 36-01 has the wrong angle. I installed one, and it leans inward. I returned it. I spoke to Rudy, and he has none either. Be careful with those stanchions!

I broke the support

Wire on one of mine and had it welded rather than replace it. Did Shaeffer custom make these for ODay?

Broken Stanchion

William, Where you're from Dartmouth and not that far from Somerset, I'm giving you a link to JJ Marine Fabricating. These guys can make you up a stanchion just like the one that's broke, or possibly weld the old one. They do super work. I've use them about three times. They are located right on the Taunton River in the village. When you bring up the link, there are two guys standing together and the guy on the left is Jeff Botelho. I always talk to him. They both own the business, but Jeff is a welder and should be able to tell you if he can do it on the spot while you wait. Jeff designed my mast holding crotch, and fit it to my stern rail for me, years ago. It was originally designed to be detachable, but I liked it so much that I made it permanent. If Rudy Nickerson doesn't have it, I'm sure that Jeff can make your old one just like new. He also has all kinds of pipe bending machines at the shop too. Good luck! Joe

Stanchion

I actually called Schaffer for these last year, and yes, they did custom make them for O'Day. They told me that O'Day was their largest cutomer back then. If you can't fix what you have, you'll have to have it made.
