Having never had a broken prop, my opinion is just a guess and worth only what you are paying.
No, I don't think you can limp home even 1/2 mile. The imbalance would shake the drive train badly and possibly destroy the cutlass bearing and the transmission bearing and seal.
Sail back if you can or get a tow.
If you have a dinghy with an outboard maybeyou can tow yourself if you have very calm water.
You might have overpaid for this advice.
BTW, what was the cause of the broken prop?

I wouldn't limp one tenth of a mile, let alone 8, unless you have a deep desire to find out how to replace bearings and seals in your transmission. As for finding a used one, many prop shops have numerous old props lying around their shops. Any of the propeller manufacturers can supply you with a new prop, but it might be nice to figure out why the blade fell off. If it had to do with electrolysis, then you should fix that before putting a new prop on.
This might be a very good time to change to a feathering prop, which should greatly improve your boat's performance under sail. I really liked my MaxProp.
Sail your boat the 8 miles, anchor outside the marina, then get a tow to your dock.

Prop blades don't just fall off. The blade either hit something hard and fast or there is a galvanic corrosion issue on your boat. Understand what made the blade fall off before investing in a new prop.

At least it is the end of the season.

Thanks for the help
Not sure what I hit I put my mask on and had a look today and discovered that the prop was broken off halfway down the blade
I know now why every thing was vibrating
It’s good I only went about 300 yards to find anchor
I’m in a good anchorage in Georgian Bay and will hang out here till the wind dies down and then get a tow

Now THAT is a first class pi$$off.

However, the telling will ensure that you will be on the very best cocktail circuits in your area for years to come.

Yes it is
But having C-Tow boating insurance will take the sting of the towing expense away
They are very reliable and helpful around here

I lost a blade several years ago. The unbalance broke the strut as well. Inspection showed electrolysis damage.. For my boat (1985 H-34) the prop was a Michigan Wheel 15 X 15 RH, 1" tapered shaft bore. The strut (a 4 hole one, some 34's have 2 mounting holes) It came with a Cutless installed.

:plus: Great advice from knowledgeable sailors.
I’d sail the boat to near home port then seek a tow to the lift and get the boat out of the water to assess the damage.

Thanks that’s a good plan
Winds are in our favour and I have a tow on the ready when I arrive
Sure o must of hit something slightly submerged
there is no galvanic corrosion on the prop shaft or strut

Not just no, but hell no
You will completely damage the cutlass bearing, shake the boat apart and possibly destroy the transmission
