I wish to inform all hunter vision-32 owner to inspect ther mast for crack. I broke a mast due to fatigue crack in the weld joint of the mast. Please informe me if other owner ad the same experience.
Are you going to be able to replace the mast and if so how much? I was considering a 32 and was wondering about the free standing mast and what would happen if it failed. Thanks
Don't know what you are left with. Have you contacted a spar shop about repair? If you have a clean break or buckle, they may be able to sleave it.They're to far away to do the repair, but the guys at the JSI/sailnet sparshop may be able to give you advice on repair or replacement. They do great work.Pete Albrights/v Nancy Ross3000 Gandy Blvd. St. Petersburg, FL 33702(800) 234-3220; (727) 577-3220E-mail: spars@sailnet.com
Yes the mast is repair with a sleeve of 28 inch instead of 6"long,i used 2 part epoxy glue Scotch Weald from 3M to bond the sleave with the 2 pcs mast.I use asleave made of a alluminum post light from PoleLight. My main concern is the original sleave was only 6" long and welded. With time the weld develope crack. I suggest to inspect all welds for crack carefully.
Sorry for your misfortune. I'm sure many others would also like to see your follow up relative to resolution, either repair or replacement. Assume you have a surveyor and insurance? This is the first instance for me of any Hunter or Freedom mast failure. Rick D.
Jean-Claude,I am in the process of buying a vision 32. I too was concerned about the integrity of the mast. I will have the surveyor carefully look at this? Did you ever notice a crack prior to this. Is the crack along the weld? Did this occur while you were in heavy winds or weather. I noticed during the sea trial that the island fridge vibrated while under sail in heavy winds. I had never experience hull vibration like this under sail. Does any one know what could be causing this? We were close hauled and poorly trimmed. Could this have caused this kind of hull vibration?Bob DeMatteo
