We had a disaster on our cal 29. It is an older boat (70's)and while motoring the engine conked out and was unable to start. It was windy and boat was pushed and got stuck under bridge in Alameda Estuary Oakland Ca. HELP. The mast completely broke. Is there any help for this boat! My husband is devastated. Luckily, no one was hurt. Is it worth it to replace mast? Can it be done? Please help me with information if anyone can. Thank you.

the mast will cost you a couple hundred bucks . contact the manufacturer they can ship you a new one or send you to the maker just dont dismantle the old one before you get the new one, remove it from the boat but keep it all together

He was a rigger on the cal's when they were in production. I have ordered a new boom from him for a friends Cal 29. He may have the extrusion for a new mast as well. If not, almost any spar shop can make you a new one. You'll most likely have to change the mast step plate to accomadate the new one but that's a minor job. I am about to replace my boom on my Cal 229 and plan to order one through US Spars. Sand Sailor has never price any rigging for a 29'boat or he'd know that just a new boom runs about $700. If you have someone do the install of the new mast and tune the rig my guess is you'll have around $3,000 to $4,000 in the job. I just finished replacing all the standing rigging on mine. I almost lost my mast (while supported with lines/halyards)durring a storm at the dock. But had it gone over the side, I would have ordered another one.(just as soon as I wiped the tears out of my eyes) Any way here's Steve Seals website....www.sealsspars.com Good luck and get that Cal fixed so you can keep on sailing.
