Replaced my back stay today and went to put the mast up (on the trailer at home luckily) and it snapped in two about 6 feet up. It's a 1987 MacGreggor 25 foot swing keel.

I am looking for any help anyone wants to offer to help me locate a new one. (web sites, marine sales etc.) I am at a loss for where to even begin to look.

Ouch!
You can use other mast's too. Just make sure it is the same length or longer. If longer cut it to fit.
You may need to use the goose neck off the new masts boom to attach you boom. Or same as the mast. Use the other boom and cut it if it is too long.
Before you go cutting here is something else to consider. If a Hobie Cat mast will fit and is taller.... Perhaps Hobie sails are in order...
I've seen a Hobie 18 mast, boom and sails used on a Mac 26D.
I can't find the pictures I saved. (Lost.)
Welcome to the site.
Good luck.

Thanks for the info. I had not considered a Cat Mast. I am afraid you're right. I am going to end up getting a longer Mast and cutting it down. Everything is either 2 feet to short or 2 feet too long. I was going to call MacGreggor AKA Tattoo Yachts I guess they are now and ask them about a Mac 26 mast. My problem is I am in to this boat so deep now I could never sell it. Good thing it's paid for .

Thanks for the advice

I see Mac 25s for sale every now and again. Sometimes they are in real bad shape so you can get the whole boat for a few hundred bucks. Search eBay and Craigs list every few weeks.

New masts are expensive. However here are a couple of mast manufactures you might want to investigate for replacement. Dwyer Aluminum(Bob Dwyer), Charleston Spar/Sparcraft (jim culibert), Selden mast in Charleston, SC

A broken mast can be repaired at a fraction of the cost of a replacement one. Repairs are sound and it is not likely break again at that same spot.

He said it broke about 6 feet up. So welding would probably not work. I'm guessing the bead would interfere with the sail track. But maybe worth talking to a welder.

I've seen a welded Hobi mast once. the break was below the goosneck so it was all good. Very strong weld and you really could not see it unless you were looking for it.

OK HERE'S AN UPDATE ON THE BROKEN MAST SAGA
Many thanks to Crazy Dave Condon for the tip on Dwyer Aluminum Masts. Just ordered a brand new one from them with some hardware to go for $930.00 (the bare bones clear mast is $732.00) and a couple hundred more in shipping from the east coast to the west coast. So $1,200.00 shipped "almost ready to go (still need to add the electrical)

I checked everywhere up and down the west coast line and only found a few of them that were not a match or would have to be cut down to size. the other problem was they were already drilled into making them have extra holes that may or may not match up. A used mast is about $300.00 to $600.00 depending on the condition and they were usually in Florida so add the postage back on. Best part is, the mast will be here right after Labor Day so I will still have plenty of time to partake in some Parrot Head Rehab!

Thanks again for the help. :)
