common problem

This is unfortunately the common endpoint for this problem. I had the same problem with my snowblower that I had described earlier. I ended up taping a slightly larger thread for a new bolt. But from your picture, you may not have room for that.

Ended up tapping a new thread

After much debate I ended up tapping a larger thread, from 6mm to 8mm. It went well. I was seriously considering buying helicoils (well - the Pep Boys version) but I only needed one coil and the kit was $30, whereas the tap and drill bit combo was $4. I debated for a long time but I couldn't justify the extra cash, especially after spending money on the bolt extractor kit. Fortunately I brought the extractor kit back to Sears and they promptly gave me a new set to replace the broken one. Thanks for all the advice - Manny

Here's a link for some stuff

That I've been using for 20 yaers now and it's never failed to do what it supposed to do, but ya gotta let it sit and do its work, I spray down critical hardware on a steel crawler track on my trenching machine every year and I've never had a bolt not come loose and these bolts get real rusty. In the fall every year I spray the shaft flange bolts and the reason I do it in the fall is because the odor of the stuff takes forever to go away
