Broke my mast foot

While lowering my mast yesterday for winter storage, the mast foot of my 240 snapped where the pin is inserted. I see the part to order in the Hunter parts store, but I'm wondering if anybody can help me with a couple of questions. Am I correct that the mast foot is riveted to the mast itself? If so, how do you get the old foot off? I fear that I may be in over my head trying to do this repair myself; wondering if it's better to take the boat to my nearest Hunter dealer/shop in Kansas City. Any advice would be appreciated.

To remove the pop rivets like any other rivets, you will need to drill them out. Use a drill bit the same size of the standard pop rivet. I think it is 3/16 inch but you will want to check what the standard size is. It could be a stainless steel pop rivet but if not, it is aluminum. Make sure you use a good bit. When off, take a file to the inside of the mast and file any old shards off.

Thank you, Dave. I've never done any riveting before, so it seemed a bit daunting at first. I've found a friend who knows what he's doing and can help. Whew!

I can remember the very first time I drilled a hole into a hull and was very cautious. Now it is a piece of cake and when I drilled too large a hole, I would reglass the bottom of the boat.

Try working on N scale model railroading steam engines taking every driver and gear apart and then also installing decoders. That is a challenge but I know how but oh do I wish for better sight and steadier hands as being an old fart in age and many other ways as well which Jim Seamons would also agree.
