Chris,Thanks! I really look forward to receiving the Cal 22 Owners Manual. It's funny--when it comes to cars, they say that the owner's manual is the least read publication in America. But, for boat owners, it seems to become most important to read when you don't have one! I realize that there must be some simple logic that comes into play but what it might be, at the moment, it escapes me.Thanks again. Ballast in Cal-22

Do any of you Cal-22 owners have loose but considerable ballast placed under the far forward bunks? Mine came with it, Chris is checking his to see.Each side has three very heavy wrapped removable cylinders.Ron

Extra Ballast

Hey Ron, I was out on my Cal yesterday & remembered to look under the compartments under the V-berth and there is nothing but the fresh water tank inside. Seems kind of strange that the factory would do that, since any ballast located there isn't even that low in terms of CG. The only thing I can think is that it must have something do with making the boat sit properly its DWL. Yours is a 1985 correct? I'm wondering if perhaps your boat was one of the first off the production line and if that might have had anything to do with it. Chris

Ron,I only have the fresh water tank in the forward compartment. I purchased my Cal 22 from the original owner and everything else on the boat appears to be correct, so I assume nothing has been removed. For the record, it is a 1987 model.I hope this helps?Matt

How does Cal-22 hold up in heavy wind?

HI - I just started looking into Cal-22s recently. I've been looking seriously for a Freedom 21, but I liked the looks of a Cal I saw in NH this week. Can I get impressions about how well they hold up in relatively heavy wind? I've been sailing a J-22 club boat in Boston Harbor. Very nice, but a little tender. Can I expect about the same in the Cal-22 or would it be a bit stiffer? Or less?Thanks -Bill

Cal 22 owners manual

Hi - I'd appreciate getting a copy of the Cal 22 owner's manual. I'm close to making a purchase. The survey will be sometime next week and if all goes well, I'll buy the boat. Any thoughts or advice any of you have about the boat before I commit?? I'll be sailing out of Boston Harbor, mainly daysailing with friends, plus a few overnights with my wife. Bill
