Has anyone used the above product "Bristol Finish" ? Is the application and finish as easy and durable as the manufacturer claims ? Any info. appreciated.

Apply it THICK
Put it on thicker than what the manufacturer recommends for best long life. If you put it (or any similar product) on 'thin' expect premature failure. I use a similar product called "honey teai" (www.signaturefinish.com) and get better than 5-6 years before needing to refinish. Use on Teak only, as most of these 'moderns' dont last long on 'other' wood.

I used it last year on the companionway on our boat and found that it held up pretty well. I used 3 or 4 coats and probably will do it 1 more time this year as I have some more brightwork projects come spring.I did use it the year before on the tiller and it held up well for 2 seasons. The cost is prohibitive but I like the fact that i hopefully will not have to reapply next year if all goes as planned.I do enjoy working on the boat but I really enjoy using it too. we have a short season here in the n/east so you have to sail when you can.

A guy at my marina uses Bristol Finish on his Bristol 27. This guy uses the best of everything on his boat and his boat looks better than it did when it was new! It looked really good but I think that it didn't last as long on his wooden toerail as he would have liked it to. I like the new lighter color cetol. It seems to last the season and it looks better than the old stuff.

I'm using it
I bought a boat with tons of teak on the outside and it is done in Bristol Finish. I finished my second season and the bright work still looks pretty good. I did some touch up this summer, some of which held up well, and some which did not. I had some some wood with large joints that did not hold up over the jointed area. I am going to try opening those up again, but let them dry out a few weeks under the shrink wrap before recoating. I used Honey Teak on my last boat and was very happy with it. From 3 feet away it looked like varnish and it seemed to hold up pretty well.

I have seen this stuff fail hard. I would never waste my time with it when there are much better / easier to use products out there!

I used it once and found it hard to mix, hard to apply and it only lasted a couple of seasons before it started peeling.
