We've just completed two summers of ownership. Here's what we've done.
-paint mast and boom, use tef gel on all aluminum and stainless connections.

-rebed about 60% of deck penetrations. I need to do lifeline stantions, dorad vents, deck fills, primary winches. All rebedding was done by overdrilling and epoxy to seal core, then 5200.

-Port bulkhead I could push a screwdriver through. First year I soaked it with git rot. Last winter I rebuilt it and replace some wet core around it. I have this posted elsewhere.

-turning blocks had some missing core and water. I removed core in a six inch circle and filled with epoxy. Made new mahogany for under the blocks. Teak railings are just below these and they were dry. Mast step is dry. So I left it at that.

-finally figured out how to mount the Frotress anchor with out interfering with the anchor locker. I put it on a block of mahogany and moved the whole thing forward about two inches.

-replaced starboard main shroud- old one looked like it had a lightening strike above the spreaders!

-12,000 btu Webasto heat and air. It's on a small shelf above the water heater and return air comes through grill on closet door. One duct goes to rear cabin, 4" pvc runs through top of head ceiling and comes out very top of head bulkhead above television. Pvc is covered in cabin headliner material to blend in and has a few holes drilled to send air into the head area.

-installed 19" flatscreen on bulkhead for the head

-teak doors with removable bronze tint acrylic inserts

-remodeled galley. New white laminate with granite look laminate for countertop. Installed Origo 6000 alcohol stove and oven. Wife likes to cook and likes the alchohol stove and no propane storage worries.

-Just removed and repainted pedestal black and will reinstall later

-added Garmin 400 series gps to pedestal guard

-new vhf radio

-cushions had been redone in navy blue by a previous owner.

-added a navy bimini top.

-rebedded speed and depth log with epoxy backing blocks and 5200. I don't think they'll ever come out in one piece, but they are original and I can live with that!

-wet sanded and buffed then Collonite the gel coat. It looks like a new boat and the shine holds.

-refinished exterior teak with natural cetol and Cetol gloss

-rebed secondary winches and discovered the plywood under starboard side was soaked! I pulled headliner down in head, cut off bottom layer of glass and let it dry. It was not rotten at all. I drilled a lot of holes to check for moisture and when it was gone I sealed it back up. Made new mahogany winch pads.

-washed all the interior teak with oxyclean and then followed up with some kind of orange oil wax and feed from home depot. You should have seen the brown gook that came off. It seemed to lighten it up a little.

- replaced one collapsed motor mount. Yes just one and it's fine. Aligned motor and it is now smooth as silk at low rpms where it use to knock on the bad mount.

there may be more as I remember them...

What part of NJ are you located in? Did you by any chance work the Catalina display at the boat show in Annapolis in 2008? If so, we met and discussed the S2 9.2C.

Your good. I have been meaning to rebed my chain plates pronto, but all I have to show for it are good intentions. I did rebed one stanchion...only to figure out that wasn't where my leak was coming from as I tightened up the nuts. Nuts indeed. It is the toe rail. I plan to pull a few screws and rebed them before doing the whole forward section on the starboard side like I should.

Gary and I want some of your luck Calypso. I am making out far better and have no reason to complain by comparison to Gary, but a late start this season due to replacement of the back stay plus finding out my fresh water tank is leaking and needs replacement was enough. On the plus side, I thought I burned out the fw pump, but it just needed resetting.

Are you sure nothing broke? Please tell me. It will make me feel better and no doubt Gary could use a lift too. ;-)

Hi, no nothing broke. Give me time... Sorry :) We live in Pa but keep the boat in NJ. That wasn't me at the show.

I would be interested in seeing pictures of the bimini (I have not been able to figure out how to install one without it interfering with the main sheet). I would also be interested in the new cushion covers. My Admiral is insisting that our 30 year old, 1980 style cushions need to be replaced!!! Any other pictures would be of interest also.

I have been researching the Beta Marine engines and if I could find the money I would order the 16 hp right now. It looks like it would be an improvement to the 2QM15.

I don't think I have any pics of the bimini- I searched high and low for some when I was looking for mine. I ordered it from GMI top design and it took longer than they said but I am happy with it. It's 5 ft long and I think 74 inches wide. It rests on the top edge of the cockpit on beveled stainless mounts. It comes back close to the traveler and I even connected the mainsheet to the rearmost part of the boom to give plenty of clearance. The main sheet now leans rearward instead of straight up and down. It seems okay to my limited knowledge. The cushion covers seem to be the same as original in size and shape, only they're in a navy blue color. Looks nice but it is darker inside. The sales pics of our boat are on overholtzer's s2 site. Look for the dark blue cushions!
