Kenn, Don't have an answer to that question yet. So far I have not been able to get in to the interior of the boat, because of the ice and the cold weather. It is just this weekend that we are having serious warming and melting. I will go over tomorrow and try and seriously get into the boat. I know that there are quarter berths that go back under the seats of the cockpit.
Hi Tom,

(Nice layout! Also, red hulls are hawt.:))

Yeah, like ours, I expect you could cut a small access hole from one of the rear quarter-berths to peek under the cockpit floor. On ours I cut a rectangular hole about 3.5" high x 10" wide, and it was enough to pick out most of the wet foam blocks, using a stick and a coathanger.

On Sandpipers, a few of us have tackled the cockpit repair in a number of different ways:

I had some rotten bulkheads to replace, so I ripped those out and worked from inside the lazarette. There was enough access to allow me to put another layer of glass cloth+epoxy under the cockpit floor, then I wrapped a plywood stiffener in cloth and epoxy and glassed that on as support. I put in all new flotation foam (styrofoam SM blue), and glassed on a new epoxy+glass-wrapped plywood bulkhead. I defy it to leak now!

One guy decided to just redo a new cockpit floor from the top.

Rub marks from straps

Did you get some rub marks from the tie down straps? I am still trying to find a way to avoid them when towing my O'Day 25. I have tried the large swim noddles on the strap but it does not work very well. I did run 4X4 across the cockpit that held the straps off the boat but it puts me over the legal limit for the width of a vehicle.
I just use strips of carpet and have no problems

Tom,
I was just forced into early retirement by a "Resource Reduction". Got plenty of time on my hands. Let me know if you need help with anything.

Thanks Dave, I told my wife that you were up there by Lake Pepin and had a 26 also. Once we get this old girl ready, I had planned on calling on you for some hands on Sailing refresher courses.

I know she will feel better, knowing that an experienced hand is at the tiller when we go out the first time or two.

I will reach out to you if I need anything that I need help resolving.

Thanks

Tom...:D:D

I can say I overlooked the value of something for a lot of years. I have owned some small sailboats and sailed since I was a teenager but had never been near a sailing club or yacht club. After we bought our O'Day I wanted to keep it at a lake and inquired about joining the local yacht club so I had a place to keep it with the mast up. What I got after joining was much better. A club full of old salts that have done just about every repair on a boat and squeezed every bit of trim to make a sailboat go faster. I would have never thought about it but these guys are gold when you are doing something with your boat. They also like to get together and eat good food and drink beer. We have our regatta this coming weekend which is the Georgia State Snipe Racing Championship. We host a bunch of guys who spend waaaayyyyyyy too much on a small sailboat that goes fast, and we all have fun.

If you have a sailing club, often a loose band of sailors, you may want to look into it. It has been a real treat for us.

Glad you made it home safely. I was not particularly pleased about Shane backing out of our deal with out even letting me know though. Please enjoy the boat, I am now looking again....

Mark,
I am a little confused. We had no "deal" You were the first person to the look at the boat (with out an appt, btw) You had every oppurtunity to make an offer, and did not. I told you I would TRY to get the boat back inside, so you could see it better. HOWEVER, that the boat was still for sale. I did try for 3 hours to get the the boat back inside to no avail. (did you miss the part about taking 3 trucks to get it out, and Tom putting new tires on the trailer) You told me the boat was wasn't worth $1500 with the motor, and sail. (at the time I thought the sail was gone) Tom offered me more then that, and it sold. If I remember right, you made reference a couple times of the similar model boats selling for $500-1000 on the coast, and I told you point blank, that I would not sell it for that. I may not know alot about sailing, but I have been around boats long enough to know a ball park price.

In case you didn't undestand me, I (alone) am selling 80 years worth of things my Grandfather has acquired. IN ADDITION to fixing up his house to sell. I thought I made it pretty clear, that I was not about to mess around with this boat any longer then I had to.

You have nothing to be unpleased about, except the fact that you didn't make an offer on the boat, when you had the chance. Sorry if you feel that way, but I don't feel you have anything to be unpleased about, and don't appreciate my name being thrown around as if I did something wrong. I worked my azz off just to get the boat out of the frozen tundra, so Tom could take it home. He bought the boat without getting inside, something you did not want to do. If your looking again, I suggest you jump on a deal if you find one. I think I made a pretty honest deal with Tom, something I would have done with you as well.

Tom, Thanks and good luck with the boat. I am sending your paperwork back today.
