Brightwork scratches

Any words of wisdom for removing scratches from a bow pulpit? Thanks in advance.

Brightwork is usually varnished wood

and bow pulpits are usually stainless steel. Scratches on varnished wood can be sanded out and revarnished. Scratches in stainless steel must be removed with abrasives and or a file and then polished.
