We aren't living there but if we were it would be nice to have a house on the water, but I don't think I would try. They are way more expensive plus the property taxes. The insurance goes up with the greater possibility of flooding with one of those "H" things. The upkeep for the dock and the seawall I'll bet is a somewhat ongoing thing. Were still looking for a house with a dock in the PC area. Just gotta keep it in my budget. If I cant find one Ill get one inland and keep it on the trailer.
Sure if I had more money than I knew what to do with it would be a different deal, but living on a retirement fixed income I'd let someone else put out the big bucks and I'd live about 10 minutes away and enjoy their dock
You might find some place inland further on a canal more reasonably priced, but then you have the depth issue getting in and out and the added time getting to open water and possible bridges so you can't keep the mast up and are doing that out on the water. Using someone else's dock you have 10 minutes in the car to the boat and about 15 minutes later you would be out in open water with the sails up
