I have a wonderful Cherubini 33'. I love it and I know all its quirks. But here is the dilema. I found a fixer upper. Its beamier and longer. more of a motorsail. THe price is rite and I can refit to my specs. I find the thought of putting my hunter on the market like cheating. i don't need 2 boats but I want to upgrade to this island trader ketch 38. It would fit my growing family better as wella s the sail charter business. I really would like to hear from others that have made the difficult decision I getting ready to make. Thanks

Are You Sure, Captain John???

...I mean about the Island Trader? They are a nightmare to maintain. The stainless isn't good, teak over plywood decks are a rotting mess and the masts have been known to delaminate and rot too. This may be a bit much to contemplate, even at a great price. Having said all that, if you did bring it back and gold-plated it, you'd have a real picture-pretty craft. Think of it as a bare hull. See the link to a practical sailor review. Regardless of what you decide, don't look back!

Make Sure you know what you are getting into.

I know two people who have bought one of these as fixer uppers. Both gave up because of the amount of structural work needed to be done, starting with the teak decks. One person gave up and used Rhino lining on theirs and just left the core wet. The other just looks forlorn and has taken a very stoic approach to using it as best he can and not put anymore money into it. By the way the difference in sailing characteristics would be frightening.

are you kidding?

trade a Cherubini for an Island Trader? What have you been smoking/drinking/breathing? Cherubini's are some of the most beautiful boats ever built: count your blessings!
