This may seem silly, but I cannot find a "breakaway" bottle of champagne (or champagne encased in netting so that glass doesn't fly everywhere) for our new boat christening. Anybody have any ideas? THANKS!!!!

the stuff in the breakaway bottles is rotgut, your boat deserves better! get a good bottle of champagne, open the cork the usual way, pour some on the bow and share the rest with your friends!

Wrap it in a thick towel

Friends of mine christened their new 460 last year that way and it worked pefectly! (they also had an extra 2 cases of Champagne for family and friends to help celebrate)

Greg's Idea

Greg's idea is the best!! May I recommend Vivo Clique? Comes in an orange-labeled bottle, is $37 and is better, in my opinion, than Dom.

champagne

Tracy I think Bob is referring to Veuve Clicquot but he's right about it being great stuff at reasonable price. For a christening you only want to pour a very small amount on the boat as its too good to waste that way. We know a thing or two about champagne on our boat. Greg S/V Champagne Girl

Champagne launch

My daughter poured a bit of champagne over the bow, but not before she accidentally opened the bottle in the galley, spraying the "ceiling". Now that's a christening! (No harm was done, except some bruised teenage pride.)
